Look of the Day: Claire Flextable

I'm so proud of myself for pumping out LOTD posts this autumn! Usually since the weather is so chilly, it gets harder to create and shoot looks. Since the temperature is dropping and the days are shorter, I'm going out my way to enjoy myself, especially when it comes to fashion. Cold weather wont ever stop me from having a good time.

I snagged this jazzy, solid color Sag Harbor wool blazer with a festive, autumn-y burnt orange color. In the spirit of fall, I just had to wear it asap! My source of inspiration for this look was the one and only Claire Huxtable from the 1980's sitcom The Cosby Show. Played by Phylicia Rashad, Claire Huxtable was wife to Cliff Huxtable, mother of five, and a stylish lawyer. Everything about her character (and the actress Phylicia Rashad) embodied classic beauty, grace, elegance, and poise.

Claire was undoubtedly the queen of blazers, silk blouses and scarves, gold brooches, skirt suits, and trousers. A source of style inspiration for working women everywhere.

To create the total look, I styled the blazer with a vintage 1980's white long sleeved Selleca blouse I wore in a 60's themed shoot this summer, an 80's pair of black and white, high rise 1990's houndstooth trousers from Lee Casuals, and a pair of leather, pointed toe kitten heels from Aldo.

What really set this look off was the accessories! Being the vintage empress I am, a couple of weeks ago I came across a dope novelty scarf. Once I got home I realized not only is it vintage, but a vintage Hermes scarf. I'm not super big into name brands as I once was, but I do recognize gems when I find them and quality from particular brands can't be denied. This silk scarf is from the 1991 Daiymo collection adorned with Japanese katana swords. It's a great addition to this look and further proves how much accessories are the icing on top to fashion looks.

In addition to the silk scarf, I couldn't resist adding a piece of fur to this look. This stole is a raccoon fur from a Juicy Couture coat I had many moons ago. At first I wanted to wear a plain brown leather purse I wore in my "Mudcloth" LOTD, but I wanted to add a pop of color and boldness to this look with my vintage 1980's Dooney & Bourke two toned crossbody purse.

A simple touch of pearl dangle earrings and a long string of pearls definitely set this look off and creates a timeless touch. Plus, what better way to complete the ensemble with a gold plated wreath brooch? So classic and chic!

Oh and the makeup? Orange hues for the win! I added a pop of orange tones in the inner eyelids from the Juvia's Place Nubian Palette and Colourpop's "Ziggie" Lippie Stix, a mix of burgundy and burnt orange. Last but not least, I pinned one part of my hair up and fluffed the rest into a curly half frohawk (thanks to a bentonite clay mask, my curls were really on one).

80's Claire Huxtable look, nailed and completed!
