Absolute LIFE was given. This weekend at the annual HOT 97 Summer Jam, Bronx rapper Remy Ma performed but not only did she come out and snap on the mic, but she also brought out the heavyweights. Rah Digga, Lady of Rage, MC Lyte, Lil' Kim, Queen Latifah, and Monie Love came out on stage as Latifah's classic "U.N.I.T.Y." played in the background and she rapped along to it. Newcomer female rappers Cardi B and Young MA also joined her.
This is so exciting to see because for about a decade now, there has been one female rapper in the mainstream spotlight. I know I state this a lot in my blogs pertaining to hip hop and female rappers, but it's honestly becoming more and more apparent that Nicki Minaj loves being by herself and doesn't want to share the mic although she has spoken out about the struggles of being a female rapper and "unity". Last Friday, a snippet of another wack diss to Remy Ma released on a song called "Realize" featuring 2
Truthfully, I've noticed this lack of unity with many newer female rap artists and not just Nicki Minaj. Some of them will hop on a track with the most trash male rapper, but wont collaborate with a fellow femcee who's just as talented as they are.
Although femcees of the 1980's, 1990's, and early 2000's had their beefs, many of them knew how to make up and work together. Even Lil' Kim and Remy Ma had a falling out back in 2007-2008 but are working together.
Check out this video from Empressive below. She breaks it down:
See, I had no clue Nicki Minaj threw shots at Cardi B too.

I hope this trend continues and brings more tracks among the new and old femcees. Is this something you're looking forward to? Share below!
