Look of the Day: How To Rock A Vintage Evening Trophy Dress Casually

It's summertime and it's time to shine! I have an absolute LOVE for vintage sequin trophy dresses. A trophy dress is a dress that's bedazzled and adorned with different embellishments like sequins, glitter, beads, and other fun things. These were very popular back in the 1980's and 1990's and usually worn as evening dresses. If you really wanna get historical, these dresses were influenced by sequined flapper dresses from the 1920's (think the party scene from the Great Gatsby movie).

With all that being said, I wanted to try to rock a trophy dress casually and in the daytime. I purchased this Star Shine dress from the 80's this past late winter/early spring for a whooping 50 cents! My girls and I were planning to head to a Do The Right Thing block party for the 30th anniversary so I wanted to go for a vintage look appropriate for the 1989 theme.

Since the dress has silver and gold sequins, I decided to rock my Cape Robbin dad shoes I got and wore for my "Galaxy" birthday look.

The key to rocking a trophy dress casually is playing the overall look down and getting comfortable. If I was going to rock this look in the evening as an evening look, I'd wear heels, probably a fur stole, the whole nine yards consisting of a classic evening look.

I played this look down by letting my hair down, rocking sneakers, and accessorizing with a basic, minimalist white leather purse.

When rocking a trophy dress on the casual tip, be sure to experiment! Plain jackets, blazers, flats, and more will keep the overall look simple and keep the focus on your trophy.

By the way, this is my first shoot I've done by myself! I think I did a swell job. Until the next look!
