I want to give a special THANK YOU to everyone who has supported #TheKendroShow blog and vlog this year. I decided to pick back up on blogging in the middle of this year, and things have been going very well since. Thank you for the genuine supporters. I appreciate the love the blog has been getting these past few months.

It's pretty hard to believe the year has flown by so fast and we'll be preparing for 2014 in a few hours. I hope you all got a lot of things accomplished and will continue to do so in 2014. This was one of the best years I've had in my life and I'm very excited not just for 2014, but for the future as a whole. I'll still be updating the blog with some stuff I haven't posted for 2013, so stay tuned for more! I hope everyone has a safe, fun New Years Eve. Last month, I was given the honor to speak to the "Hip-Hop Theology Class" taught by Dr. Daniel Hodge giving my lecture "The Elephant in the Hip-Hop Room: Sexism, Black Male Masculinity, & Other Problems in Hip-Hop". Special thanks to NPU student Lisa Countain for sending Dr. Hodge my original blogpost about sexism and masculinity in hip hop ("You Can't Rap With Us!" Sexism In Hip-Hop) and Dr. Hodge for having me in his class.

I don't really care for celebrity news, but this right here made me smile. Kendrick Lamar brought out Lil' Kim at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York this past weekend at the Power 105.1 Powerhouse Concert. The two performed snippets of "Get Money" and "All ABout the Benjamin's" followed by K. Dot bowing to one of the original queens of hip-hop.

Other than the fact that we all know Lil' Kim is one of my biggest inspirations and emcees, I love the fact that he's acknowledging not only a slept on O.G. in the game, but also the fact that she's a female emcee (in regards to the sexism and disregard of certain women in hip-hop). Take note because that's how you're supposed to do it. That makes me like Kendrick even more with his fine milk chocolate self. You don't see stuff like this too often anymore. Give props to those who paved the way for you and inspire these young kids out here to do their homework and research about the originators.

Did you know in 1970 Don Cornelius (born & raised in the Bronzeville neighborhood) created the show "Soul Train" before it moved to L.A. the following year? 

I was chosen to be a coordinator and model for the 2013 UIC Fashion Show and the theme happened to be "Made in Chicago". I decided to dedicate my scene "Soul of Chicago" to the late Don Cornelius & the Soul Train. I grew up watching Soul Train every Saturday at 1pm, listening to old school music, & dancing. This project was very important to me because I learned to appreciate Black American culture and take pride in my heritage and an early age. 

I wanted to express this history and culture to those who did not know about this. The models in my scene & I danced down the runway to "Let's Groove Tonight" by Chicago funk band Earth, Wind, and Fire. Special thanks to all the models, UIC, K&N Media for photography, & LeThrift Consignment Boutique in Wicker Park for allowing me to bring my vision to life.
