Every autumn New York Fashion Week slays the fashion world, but so does the Motherland.
Accra Fashion Week was held from October 3-8 in Ghana's capital city. A few years ago supermodels Naomi Campbell and Iman made the headlines stating that there was still a lot of discrimination going on in the fashion industry (and water is wet). Prior to the creation of his fashion brand, Yeezy, Kanye West had a similar problem getting his foot in the door. It would be a wise move for Black models and designers in the U.S. and in other countries to collaborate with models and designers in Africa who are in the business of promoting melanin on the runway.
African designers like Naa Lamley Kouture, Dauvia, Bri Wireduah, and many more had a host of beautiful models grace the runway with their one of a kind designs for harmattan (a dry season from December to February in West Africa) and spring/summer. What's great about this fashion week is not only were there designers from Ghana and of Ghanian descent, but also from South Africa, Nigeria, Congo, Botswana, Senegal, Niger, the Netherlands, Ireland, the U.S. and other countries in Africa and in Europe. Take a look at the best of Accra Fashion Week, photo courtesy of their official Instagram page and their website.

These designers are up and ready for swimsuit and sundress seasons. The designs are absolutely amazing. There should be no reason these designers aren't getting the same shine as the Yves Saint Laurents, Louis Vuittons, and Chanel. High quality and high fashion. Remember y'all, if you want authentic African fashion, you need to be getting your clothing from Black African fashion designers who are using authentic fabric, not that fugazi ish off Alibaba.

I never knew about this. These fashions are breathtaking and yes, I’d love to see a collaborative effort between Ghana and the US for these shows. Thanks for exposing us to this!
