The most wonderful time of the year is loading - Art Basel Miami and Miami Art Week. I heard about Art Basel years ago and I knew a few people who attended and were apart of it, but I had no clue how major it was until I attended. The experience was absolutely amazing. That weekend was nonstop, action packed, and enormously fun.

What Is Art Basel?
Art Basel is an international art fair that showcases artwork of different mediums from paintings to sculpture from artists all over the globe. Basel began in 1970 and is annually hosted in cities like Hong Kong, Paris, and of course Miami Beach. Basel’s Miami Beach showcase is every December and typically at the Miami Beach Convention Center.
What About Miami Art Week?
Every December Miami Art Week coincides with Basel weekend. Similar to the main weekend affair, Art Week is an entire week of art fairs, gallery showings, expositions, fashion shows, parties, and more all over the city. No matter what part of the city, there’s bound to be some kind of event happening. Art Week’s hot spot is in Miami’s art district Wynwood where many highlighted events, parties, and exhibits will take place.
When Is It?
For the 2024 year, Art Basel will be from Friday December 6th to Sunday December 8th. Art Week is from Sunday December 1st to Sunday December 8th.

For those coming from out of town for Basel, here's a quick and basic guide on where to stay. My full Miami Travel Guide with restaurants, transportation info, and more can be found here. Since most major events and galleries will be taking place in Wynwood, Downtown, Brickell, and Miami Beach, the hotels listed are in those areas. Extra hotels in proximity to these neighborhoods will be provided as well.

NOTE: Be mindful of factors like already congested Miami traffic as roads will be even more clogged due to Basel when choosing a location to stay in. One year I stayed in an AirBnB in the Little Haiti neighborhood and it was easy getting to and from Wynwood, Brickell, Downtown, and Overtown. Keep in mind that Miami is a very easy city to navigate as well.
How To Get Around
The best way to get around is driving for both locals and visitors. In specific ride share is a better option. Not only will you be supporting locals during the week, but parking is almost impossible since the city and events are so packed. Using your own vehicle or renting a car is still a good option, but be mindful of having to search for parking spots and possibly having to walk a few blocks to your destination.
An alternative during the day is Miami’s public transportation system to maneuver through areas like Miami Beach and Wynwood. Always remember traffic will be increased no matter what choices you make. If you’re coming from Fort Lauderdale, Aventura or north of Miami in general, utilizing the Brightline train is another option.
UPDATE: Street closures in Wynwood will occur from Thursday December 5 to Sunday, December 8. Daily closures from 4pm to 6am. It will take place on NW 2nd Avenue between NW 21st Street and NW 29th Street.
Hard Closure will take place on NW 2nd Avenue between NW 21st Street and NW 29th Street. This will be daily from 4pm to 6am.
