Restaurant Review: Blind Faith Cafe

This weekend I wanted to go back to Karyn's for some vegan, gluten free soul food. Unfortunately they close at 8pm on Saturdays and I met up with my boyfriend too late for us to visit. Instead we checked out another restaurant in Evanston, IL called Blind Faith Cafe. The reviews online for the restaurant were positive, so we were definitely interested.

The Blind Faith Cafe is a certified "green" vegetarian restaurant that has a wide range of gluten and vegan options. The cafe was founded in 1979 by Ivan Newell, Fran Welch, and David Lipschultz and has been in its current Dempster street location. You can read more about the great history of the cafe here.

When we arrived to the restaurant, it was pretty full inside. While reading the reviews, I could tell the spot is very popular, so it was no surprise it was poppin' even on a bitter cold winter night. There are two sides to the restaurant, one the main dining room and the other a smaller dining area with a built in mini bakery full of cakes and pies in the display case. Like many restaurants, the Blind Faith Cafe is dimly lit, decorated with warm colored artwork, and has a serene atmosphere.

We were greeted by a cheerful receptionist and sat in a booth by the window. I think this restaurant has a really great vibe and played a lot of good music. Fleetwood Mac, Amy Winehouse, Ray Charles, Elton John, Etta James sounded lightly through the speakers as we chatted and ate. I ordered the Yellow Coconut Curry bowl and my boyfriend got the Blind Faith Burger.

I enjoyed the curry bowl a lot, and not to mention the presentation was appealing. The rectangular shaped bowl is everything and chic. The dish came with jasmine rice, veggies, and Thai curry sauce. The curry sauce wasn't as spicy as I expected but overall it was delicious. For dessert, I got the Black Forest Cake which is gluten free and vegan and it was amazing! It's drizzled with raspberry sauce and comes with a mini cup of ice cream.

I'm always excited to to try out and share my experiences at vegetarian spots. My time at the Blind Faith Cafe was wonderful. The service is excellent, the staff is friendly and welcoming, the food came quick, even during a crowded time. I'd like to visit the cafe again for their weekend brunch. This spot is certainly recommended.
