Product Review: BH Cosmetics 88 Matte Color Eyeshadow Palette

Did you know makeup has an expiration date? Yup, it sure does. Just like it's important to get rid of old food out the fridge, you have to do the same with cosmetics.

With that being said, this past summer I was on a journey for a new makeup palette. My Stila Ultimate Palette was cute or whateva, but it was getting too old to use. I wanted something similar to that palette; something with multiple eye shadow colors, blushes, and lip glosses all in one. Lemme tell you, those ultimate, all in one, palettes must be a thing of the past because it's so hard to find and I'm not a big fan of individual eyeshadows or eyeshadow palettes that only have only one color range (ie. nude palettes, warm color palettes, etc).

After doing research, I narrowed my choices down to:

The Juvia's Place Nubian Palette

Morphe 35U - Multi-Color Shimmer Eyeshadow Palette

So yeah, I pretty much ended up with the BH Cosmetics 88 Matte Eyeshadow Palette which is why we're here. To sum it up, while all of the above palettes are pretty dope, I wanted something with a wider range of colors.

The NYX palette was closest to the Stila Ultimate Palette and has a large color range, but I'm not a big fan of their eyeshadows (too chalky for my taste). I actually got the Juvia's Place Nubian palette because I wanted to support a B.O.M.B., but I didn't want my first main palette to be one with only one color range, being nude colors. I would have had to purchase all the JP palettes to satisfy my hunger for color and I'd much rather have one big palette with all of the colors in one place.

Morphe has some bad ass products. When I was doing runway modeling at a fashion show a few years ago, a MUA used the eyeshadows on me. Popping severely. However, the 35U palette was shimmer based and I wanted a matte base. Plus, while it is multi-color, there's not enough range with the colors. They also look so randomly placed on the palette.

I grabbed the BHC palette on their website during their summer sale for $8. Yes, $8. If you're an avid reader at TKS, you already know how much I love sales. I purchased a tube of Pop Art Lipstick in "Zap" with the palette also.

I purchased this on July 21st and didn't get it until August 4th. Let's not get it twisted though, this is definitely not the fault of BH Cosmetics because the company did ship my package on time. This was more so on the fault of FedEx (their primary shipper) and USPS. Fast forward to last Friday and I got my package, finally. However, upon opening it, I noticed how "dusty" the outer package was later to open the palette finding out that some of the colors were cracked.

No worries though. I informed BH Cosmetics and they gladly gave me a refund for the palette. Their customer service is very helpful via their Twitter accounts. Now let's get into the palette!

Pros:

  • Great range of colors (88 colors, dude!)
  • Pigmented colors
  • Affordable price
  • Cruelty free
  • Vegan & Gluten free
  • Allergy tested
  • WOC friendly
Cons:
  • Small
  • Fall out with some colors
  • Vegan & Gluten free but does have unnatural ingredients

I'm very satisfied with this palette. I love it because I can use the colors for casual everyday looks to glam looks. I'm so in love with the different shades of greens, blues, purples, honey it's everything. The price is great, the colors are blendable, and there's limited fallout. I'd love to see this palette's size be increased, perhaps BHC could add in some lippies and blushes too.

While the palette does claim to be vegan, gluten free, cruelty free, and is allergy tested, the ingredients aren't necessarily on the au naturalle side, although the company does not specialize in natural/organic products. Personally, I don't mind my eyeshadows to not be all natural. I'd say the only major con with this palette is that there is fall out with some of the colors

BH Cosmetics got themselves a new supporter. The company seems to always have sales, the products are good quality, and affordable. Only thing is, I'm going to need for them to find a new company to ship with, because FedEx ain't getting the job done. Other than that, I'm enjoying this palette!
