Not being able to shoot frequently due to the pandemic has been a damper, no lie. The good thing is that that kinda thing never stops ya girl Dro. Although I was slummed in looking for a look to deliver, I still came through. I've worn it plenty of times before, but I decided to give my vintage plaid blazer and matching skirt set a revamped look from the 60's/70's.
Plaid is without a doubt an autumn (and winter) staple. Although there are softer and lighter colored variations that can be worn throughout the year, it's well known for popping up and popping out in the chill months. According to the Smithstonian, plaid traces back all the way to ancient Scotland. The gag is, "plaid" isn't even the correct term. "Tartan" anyone? The term "plaid" wasn't used until the British and American fashion industries co-opted the fabric reselling it to customers and here we are today.
Despite the popularity of bohemian style and mod pieces from the UK, plaid was very popular during the 60's and 70's. Skirts and even sets similar to the one I have were also all the rage. My vintage Marnie West bell sleeve blouse was the perfect match for this retro ensemble especially because they were also pretty hip back in the day.
What screams 1960's to 1970's other than a pair of chunky platform boots?
