Look of the Day: Purple Reign

It wouldn't be right for me to be the Empress of Vintage Fashion and not create a look paying homage to the one and only Prince! The legendary, multi-talented late singer and musician was well known for his 1984 movie and soundtrack album Purple Rain creating iconic songs like "When Doves Cry", "Let's Go Crazy", "I Would Die 4 U", and "Purple Rain".

The Purple One donned the royal color in the 80's paired with ruffle blouses alongside his group The Revolution. I found this fly vintage blazer literally a couple of weeks ago by Ann Tijan for Kenar and loved the geometric form, especially in the collar area. I simplified this look with a basic pair of black leggings from MeMoi (grabbed 'em at Marshall's for $4!).

The ruffle sleeve blouse and pillbox hat are repeat looks (which I absolutely have no issue doing). I first rocked the Marnie West white top in my "Word to Ya Motha Mom Jeans" look this past winter and then the sequined hat this summer for the "Phyllis Hyman Realness" look

When I first visualized this look, I knew my lavendar Riverstone cowgirl boots would be a big hit! I also wore these before, in the "Winter Flowers" look. I think this is such a dope, unorthodox addition to this look and super badass!

Since it's autumn and the autumn breeze has definitely set in here in Chicago, I rocked my vintage Gallery purple trench coat I grabbed while thrifting in the spring.

I love the boldness and brightness of this look and the fact that it can be worn in any season! It screams 80's and is a great mix of vintage styles from the era.

  1. Layered purple jackets? Iconic. This is probably the best tribute look for Prince I've ever seen. And I live near Minneapolis, where there's no shortage of still grieving Prince fans.

  2. Nicely put together. Purple is a good color, love the trench!
