Look of the Day: Sassy Hatshepsut Jenkins 🐾

Some looks are definitely better the second time around. Every autumn/winter season, I make it my business to rock one of my favorite outfits; a late 1990's/early 2000's Selene tiger print two piece pants and jacket set. If this doesn't scream Foxy Brown from both the 1970's and 1990's era? I don't know what does. Speaking of Foxy, I wore this look a few years ago at her concert. This time it's much more polished and I look and feel a lot better (shoutout to the plant based vegan lifestyle!)

As stated, there's a lot of 70's meets 90's themes in this look. I rarely dress in ode to the 1970's (that will change very soon), so I wanted to do it up with this look. I'm the queen of imagination, so I coined a cute alter ego reminiscent of Blaxploitation films from the decade. Think Pam Grier as Foxy Brown and Coffy, Tamara Dobson as Cleopatra Jones.

Blaxploitation is a genre of films that was widely and mainly popular in the 1970's and were marketed to urban Black American audiences. Although many elements and characters were deemed as negatively stereotypical, there were those that created a heroic and even pro-Black dynamic.

I came up with the name Hatshepsut Jenkins because I think she's one of the most underappreciated Black and woman historical figures. *Enters quick history lesson*

Hatshepsut was the second recorded female pharaoh of Kemet (Egypt, the first was Sobeknefru) and one of the most successful leaders of the dynasty. Last name Jenkins? Something a lil' ethnic, you feel me?

Such a catty look, right? I even accessorized the jacket with a trio of wild cat brooches! Not to mention a cheetah pattern scarf too. Experimenting with different patterns is always a must for a wild child like me, but it certainly hits with animal prints.

In the first look from this set, I wore a light brown, white, and dark brown tiger striped top. Which was super cute (and I eventually sold on my shop since I lost weight). I really loved how it contrasted with the darker tiger print theme of the set, but this embellished back out top really worked well with it. I also donned a whole throwback af Wilson's Leather coat (that I purchased for under $3 by the way). It really added some Shaft-ness with the ongoing Blaxploitation theme.

This look is autumn and winter perfection, but more importantly it's wild, funky, fresh, and decade-fluid from the 70's to the 90's. Sassy Hatshepsut Jenkins will be back with more groovy looks!
